There are those rare moments in the non-profit world when you are actually surprised by a gift. You work hard to raise funds, going for that $25 a month gift….knowing that it all matters and someone’s life will be changed by every gift. And then out of the blue someone does something that surprises you. [...] Restore a Voice is working to create a safe, inviting place where women who are picked up from the authorities or who are being discharged from a hospital can begin a new journey. A journey to dignity, love, trust and freedom. This location will also serve as a training center for law enforcement, social service [...] Is there something you have wanted so bad you could almost taste it? That new job? A promotion? That award? Recognition? Forgiveness? That one chance to prove yourself? We all have! As much as we might believe we deserve “it,” whatever “it” is, it seems just out of our reach. But then…someone steps into the [...] I’m at one of my offices (one of many local coffee shops) reviewing the Spring 2013. Oh my….there is so much to do. So what’s new? But I have to try to tell you about the amazing people I have met and the exceptional collaboration taking place in Texas. Last Thursday, I had my first “official” seat with the Central Texas Coalition Against Human Trafficking. I have long thought [...] I am not quite sure how to say “thank you” for this….but I have tried. After receiving the news a couple of weeks ago that The River Conference (associated with the Free Methodist denomination) had given $25,000 to RAV toward the youth house, I wanted to say “thank you.” That is one reason I went to [...] It is so encouraging to see so many young leaders stepping up to meet the challenges of today’s world with a Godly, Biblical message…but also with their hands to the task. They are unwilling to simply be mouthpieces, screaming at the problem. They want to work. Thank you for your support of Restore A Voice [...] …then we would’t have to work so hard. Then again, I have never been shy about working hard. But these days it seems that working hard has moved to an all new level. The place where we do strategic planning, we appropriately call it the WAR ROOM (because we believe we are fighting in a [...] by Shelley Kilpatrick, RAV Intern Prosecuting Human Trafficking in Texas Although the Federal law against human trafficking is fairly new, there have been many cases prosecuted here in the United States.
